Engineering Complex¶
Raitaru, Azbel and Sotiyo are the primary structures for manufacturing and for science jobs. They also have a small bonus towards the reduction in manufacturing and science cost and the time it takes to perform those jobs.
Jobs that are considered science jobs:
- Researching Material or Time Efficiency on a Blueprint Original
- Copying a Blueprint Original
- Inventing a Blueprint Copy
Note
You can also build in an Athanor, Tatara, Astrahus, Fortizar, and Keepstar. Those structures do not provide an additional cost and time bonus in the structure itself.
Additionally, Athanor's and Tatara's, Astrahus's, Fortizar's and Keepstar's, also can install Engineering Rigs.
The following topics will go more into the different structures, and some of their differences.
Raitaru¶
- Structure size: M
- Rigs: Rigs are split between Material Efficiency (ME) and Time Efficiency (TE)
- Built Limits: Cannot build Capitals, or Super Capitals. Freighters, Jump Freighters, and Orcas, use Capital Components but are not counted as Capital Ships and can therefor be built
- Docking Limits: Capitals cannot dock. Freighters, Jump Freighters, and Orcas, can dock, as they aren't counted as Capital Ships.
- Bonuses:
- 1% reduction in materials
- 15% reduction in time for manufacturing and science jobs
- 3% reduction in isk costs for manufacturing and science jobs
Raitarus are compared to Azbels and Sotiyos very cheap. One of their primary disadvantages is that they are only M-Sized structures, which means they only have one reinforcement cycle before they can be destroyed.
Their second disadvantage can also be a huge advantage if done right. Rigs are split into Material Efficiency and Time Efficiency. This will require you to either drop a lot of structures to get a full bonus set, or decide very careful on what you want bonused with the limited Rig slots. But as mentioned this can also be an advantage. The T1 Rigs are very cheap, and even the T2 Rigs aren't very costly. Having the Rigs split gives you a lot of options, For example, the corp I am in, has some Rigs where the bonuses are relevant as T2 Rigs, and everythig else as T1. Not only is it more cost effective, but you also have more room for what you actually want to bonus. The disadvantage of needing a lot of structures to cover all categories, of course stays, but you also get a lot of freedom.
Azbel¶
- Structure size: L
- Rigs: Rigs contian Material Efficiency (ME) and Time Efficiency (TE)
- Built Limits: Cannot build Super Capitals
- Docking Limits: While they can built Capital Ships in them, you cannot dock again, remember to put fuel in your Capital or have a Fortizar/Keepstar to Dock
- Bonuses:
- 1% reduction in materials
- 20% reduction in time for manufacturing and science jobs
- 4% reduction in isk costs for manufacturing and science jobs
Azbels are the next bigger structure from Raitarus. Being an L-Structure they also have two reinforcement cycles. They also combine Material Efficiency and Time Efficiency into one Rig.

Sotiyo¶
- Structure size: XL
- Rigs: Multiple categories are merged into a single Rig
- Built Limits: No limits
- Docking Limits: Capital Ships can dock here, but Super Capitals cannot dock, remember to have fuel in the Super Capital or a Keepstar to dock
- Bonuses:
- 1% reduction in materials
- 30% reduction in time for manufacturing and science jobs
- 5% reduction in isk costs for manufacturing and science jobs
Sotiyos are the same size as Keepstars, with the exception, that Super Capitals cannot dock in here. The Rigs are now merged together into categories. There are a total of 4 Rigs, 3 of them for Manufacturing and 1 of them for Research. A single Sotiyo can therefor cover all Manufacturing categories.
Conclusion¶
There are many discussions on what structures should be used for an Indyhub, and I had the unfortuanet honor of being part of way to many of those. In essence, their is an argument for all structures. The corp I am in, has adopted a Indyhub with Raitarus, as primary manufacturing facilities, an Azbel for the construction of Capital Ships, and finally a Tatara for Reactions and Reprocessing. We also went with T2 Rigs for example for the Capital Components and the Advanced Components. An older design from us, only used Azbels and a Tatara.
There are people that will tell you that they either want a Sotiyo, or no indy structures at all. From a convience point, that is a valid request, with our indy hub, we for example have 6 structures, that a single Sotiyo could cover. But because T2 Rigged Raitarus will get the same Rig bonuses like a T2 Rigged Sotiyo, the cost of having a indyhub primarily consiting of Raitarus, is a lot cheaper. That also ignores the fact, that there are not a lot of T2 Rigged Sotiyos in the wild, most will be T1 Rigged, which is already a fortune to pay.
